THE BRIEF
For this new build home in the heart of Edinburgh, the clients envisioned a kitchen that would serve as the social centrepiece of their contemporary living space. They wanted a design that would feel calm, cohesive, and architecturally integrated, reflecting the clean lines and modern proportions of the property itself.
The brief called for a kitchen that was as functional as it was beautiful - a space that could easily transition from the practicalities of daily family life to the elegance of entertaining. With open-plan living at the core of the home, the clients were keen to create a kitchen that flowed seamlessly into the dining and lounge areas, maintaining a strong visual connection across the space while still offering a defined sense of purpose.
THE DESIGN CONCEPT
The kitchen layout has been meticulously planned to optimise both efficiency and visual balance. The large island unit doubles as a preparation area and a casual dining space, complete with integrated banquette seating. This multi-functional feature defines the boundary between the kitchen and living areas while maintaining an open, social connection throughout the space.
Full-height Leicht cabinetry along the back wall conceals generous storage and integrated appliances, maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. The sleek handleless doors and intelligent Siemens appliances contribute to a streamlined appearance, while the central skylight above floods the room with daylight, enhancing its sense of openness.
